AIA OMAHA CATEGORY III DESIGN CHALLENGE

The AIA Omaha Category III Design Challenge is an innovative program that focuses on Omaha metro area junior and senior high school students, illustrating the impact of thoughtful design and introducing students to a career in architecture.  The year-long program mimics a collegiate architectural design studio.

Each year a unique program is developed and presented to the participating high school students at an initial kickoff meeting.  Once the students have been presented the program they will spend the next two semesters working to design a creative and successful solution to the program.  The AIA Omaha Category III Design Challenge is incorporated into part of the students' daily routine of classwork.  The program relies on dedicated teachers at each participating high school.  Throughout the school year AIA Omaha design professionals visit the schools to provide additional design guidance and critique the progress of the students' designs.  At the end of the school year, the student design teams will present their projects to a jury of architects and design professionals.  Awards in the form of student scholarships will be given for the most exceptional projects and a financial award for technology improvements at the school with the top project will be awarded.
