The design is a reflection of the owner’s desire to create a contemporary retreat that takes full advantage of characteristics of the site: a steeply sloped bur oak savanna and quarry that was dammed to create a beautiful lake setting. The lines of the structure reflect the heavily treed site - 60’ curving glulam beams support 3x6 structural decking to create a wooden protective canopy above, a massive stone fireplace and stone accents evoke the former use of the site and all interior spaces were positioned to maximize views to the water. Interior finishes were chosen to radiate the essence of the site. The use of natural finishes, native colors and a leaf motif were incorporated into the finishes. The end result meets the primary objectives for the use of the space: comfortable, family-oriented entertaining and relaxation.
