The original house was built in the 1930’s. The initial addition was built in 1990 and it consisted of a double garage addition with an exterior courtyard. We added a second floor family room in 2004 with a new space above the garage. The series of additions were based on the concept of a central exterior courtyard as a way of merging the old and the new. The main building materials used were burnished block, concrete board, brick and metal. The courtyard consists of brick, slate and cedar. The second floor addition is oriented towards the courtyard and is spatially connected to the second floor with a glass slot in the floor. Interior materials are cherry wood trim, drywall and pecan floor.
